Theme Four

Serious news

There are several newspapers in our country. In theory, they're all neutral, but when we read the news carefully, we can see that in fact, they're not. A clear example is the Catalan Independence Referendum announcement. It was an important subject, so lots of newspapers wrote about it. Doing a little bit of research, we have found that the same event has been told slightly differently, as you can see below.

We have selected five newspapers: El País, La Vanguardia, l'Ara, la Expansión and the ABC. They all treated the same subject, but in different ways. On one hand, most Catalan newspapers have defended the Referendum. Some of them are la Vanguardia and l'Ara, as you can see in the picture below.

On the other hand, a large number of Spanish newspapers have demonstrated their opinion about the enquiry. Some of them, like la Expansión or the ABC, represented Spain's opinion about it.

Perhaps the most objective was El País, a Spanish newspaper that explained the subject quite fairly. It informed about it in a neutral way.

A fake newspaper article

The newspaper El País is the daily newspaper in Spain with the highest-circulation and one of three Madrid dailies considered to be along with El Mundo and ABC one of the most popular newspapers of Spain.

This paper, on 24/01/2013, published a photograph of the president “Hugo Chávez” lying on a hospital bed suffering a kind of illness. This photo was obtained by the Spanish agency Gtres Online.

Obviously, this photo was fake, so the newspaper retired that piece of news when, a half hour after, El País was able to verify itself that the photo was a frame from a youtube video.

However, there were a lot of people who were able to read this article republish the photo and make some negative comments about this subject.
In fact, Chávez was in La Habana where he had had an operation to remove a tumour.

Here, we can observe that the most important thing for the media is selling a piece of news and being the first to publish it without caring if it’s true or not.

A funny newspaper article

Going to the less series news, we have the famous yell of Cristiano Ronaldo in the Golden Ball ceremony.

We've compared this "news" between different newspapers:

The catalan newspaper Ara, supporting the yell of Cristiano and remarking several times that its origin comes from the locker room where he uses this beheaviour with his peers.

"És el crit que fem sempre amb l'equip. Fa tres anys que celebrem els nostres gols i les nostres victòries d'aquesta manera. Ho fem als partits, a l'entrenament, sempre"
"It's the yell that we always do with the team. Three years ago we used to celebrate our victories and our goals this way. We use it in parties, training... always"

“...Era la meva manera de fer participar i compartir el trofeu amb els meus companys. Perquè han estat sempre al meu costat tant com jo al seu",
“...It was my way to participate and share the trophy with my colleagues. Because they have always been by my side as much as I've been at their side "

The spanish newspaper El Periódico also does not criticize Cristiano's yell because it has been used for more than three years and increases the emotions expressed when he scores goals.

We can also see that Cristiano was surprised when he saw that after all the controversy that this trophy had brought he was finally the winner, so he wanted to show his emotion using this, now famous, yell.

The spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo abstained from making any criticism, and only commented that it shocked the public.

In the picture we can see written: "I love the penalties."

Another example of the same story in another daily spanish newspaper is in As, which also said that he surprised the audience and even Ancelotti laughed.

Moreover, the newspaper As shows us one of the parodies that were controversial due to the yell.

At that time, criticism of the famous yell  had begun to emerge in various ways. The German newspaper Bild had not found another way to avenge that the goalkeeper Neuer had lost the 'Golden Ball' so they caricaturized Cristiano as a deer and, incidentally, offered its readers a ringtone with the yell of the Portuguese player, that they could have on their mobile if they desired. The Argentine newspaper Olé, who also wanted the award for the goalkeeper of the German team, had written on its cover: "Uuuuuuy, how I am" in reference to Ronaldo, adding that Leo Messi has four awards. "Keep participating," quipped the newspaper.

Famous people

Kim Kardashian is famous for being the main character of a reality show called  Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Her parents are Robert Kardashian, a successful lawyer, and Kris Jenner, a manager. She's actually one of the most famous women, together with her two sisters (Kourtney and Khloé Kardashian) and her others two stepsisters (Kendall and Kylie Jenner).

One of her latest news is that she is trying to have a child with her husband Kanye West and she declares that she has sex 500 times in a day! Of course, it is too much but she ensures that she tries to do it as much as she can. Well done Kim!

Jennifer Farley or Jwoww is famous for being one of the characters of a reality show called Jersey Shore. She's the best friend of Snooki, another character of Jersey Shore. They both did their own reality show called Snooki & Jwoww.
Jennifer was pregnant and she gave birth to a girl last year. Her husband is Roger Mathews. They announced their wedding which will be held in October 2015. She says that she is really excited about plaining the expected wedding. Jennifer and Robert want their baby girl to carry the flowers in their wedding.

Rita Barberá is famous for being the mayoress of Valencia, Spain. She's actually in the newspaper because Valencia was about to celebrate its big traditional party, Les Falles
On the first Falles' night, Rita had to make a speech in which she had to introduce the beginning of Les Falles. She was extremely nervous, and some people would say drunk, so she made a lot of mistakes. She mixed Catalan with Spanish and the result of this is a super remix called EL CALORET FALLER

Advertisements - Theme 2

Hello everybody,

Advertisement in business is a form of marketig communication used to encourage, persuade or manipulate an audience to take or continue to take some addiction.

They usually use implicit images that make us want buy products that we really don't need.

Most of brands use also inappropriate pictures or skinny persons to perform it. Then, the society imitate this conducts and practice it.

But we can find some advertisements that they only help us and the planet. And this kind of advertisements make us conscious of something that impact on our world.

We found this clever marketing concept by the WWF.
It demonstrates a crucial environmental message built into the environment. This paper towel dispenser has a cut out shape of South America which is filled with green paper towels that represents the green rain forest canopy of the continent. As people slowly drain the towel dispenser we are able to see the greenness slowly being drained out of South America which symbolizes the terrible environmental impact of disposable paper towels. At the top of the dispenser is the slogan 'Save Paper. Save the Planet.' Followed by the recognisable WWF logo. This is an example of guilt-driven green advertising. People using the paper towel can see directly themselves what their actions are doing to the hypothetical South America, and may be persuaded to use less paper towels.

Now, here in Spain we have a controversial ad. It's about a girl that she wants to be mother. And you can see how (manipulating condoms). This adversetimen is dedicated to the mom's day. (Desigual is spanish clothes brand).

There are some announcements that they are so funny. We love and laugh of them!!!

The last is made with a lot of wit. If you buy Orion telescopes you can see that the USA flag is MADE IN CHINA! It's really funny but it's not a credible announcement.

We like this ad too.
 "Dove: Unstick your style
Dove's Volumizing Mousse applied to cartoon girls."

Thanks to Dove they have a beatiful hair.

This ad is pretty simple and conveys the point very clearly! The tagline says, 'Nothing wakes you up as Nescafé'.

And this is a very clever and interesting adversetiment. "Life's too short for the wrong job".
